At most wedding receptions, toasts are made to the bride and groom from several well-wishers. It usually begins with a short(?) speech for the newlyweds, and then ends when the guests are asked to “raise their glass” to celebrate the couple and wish them well.
One of our lessons this weekend at St. Paul’s is Psalm 116. In verse 13 the psalmist says: “I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.” Is he encouraging us to join him in toasting the Lord of our salvation? Interesting question and one that we’ll find the answer to as we gather for worship on Sunday at 9:30 am.
